The building that houses the Akita City Cultural Creation Center originally opened as Akita Prefectural Museum of Art in 1967. The unique shape of the roof and the round windows were designed based on the advice of Tsuguharu Foujita so that sunlight would shine into the large space where his mural The Events in Akita was exhibited.
Akita City Cultural Creation Center–which opened in March 2021 after renovation of the old Akita Prefectural Museum of Art, which closed in 2013–is a facility for people who live in Akita and people who are looking for a way to express themselves.
There is a takeout-only cafe with an open atmosphere as it is connected to the outside via a deck, and there is a shop where you will find foreign and domestic everyday items that are a cut above the rest. We recommend stopping by to take a break from your walk around Senshu Park.
